For, just like the Whole, he possesses both mind and reason, both a divine and a mortal body. He is also divided up according to the universe. It is for this reason, you know, that some are accustomed to say that his consciousness corresponds with the nature of the fixed stars, his reason in its contemplative aspect with Saturn and in its social aspect with Jupiter, and as to his irrational part, the passionate nature with Mars, the eloquent with Mercury, the appetitive with Venus, the sensitive with the Sun and the vegetative with the Moon.

Such doctrines were commonplace in mystery-schools and Hermetic and gnostic sects throughout the Roman Empire and influenced the early Christian church. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. Among Muslims the "astral" world-view was soon rendered orthodox by Quranic references to the Prophet's ascent through the seven heavens. Scholars took up the Greek Neoplatonist accounts as well as similar material in Hindu and Zoroastrian texts. By the 14th century Dante was describing his own imaginary journey through the astral spheres of Paradise.

Throughout the Renaissance , philosophers, Paracelsians , Rosicrucians and alchemists continued to discuss the nature of the astral world intermediate between earth and the divine. Once the telescope established that no spiritual heaven was visible around the solar system, the idea was superseded in mainstream science. Spiritual plane :. Astral - Ethereal plane :. According to occult teachings the astral plane can be visited consciously through astral projection , meditation and mantra , near death experience , lucid dreaming , or other means.

Individuals that are trained in the use of the astral vehicle can separate their consciousness in the astral vehicle from the physical body at will. The second stage is the intellect, otherwise known as the sharpening of the mind. Someone operating largely out of the instinctive mind would "have only a glimmering of intellect", therefore those who are centered in the intellect would only have an inkling of the spiritual. Once both stages are completed the spiritual mind can be awakened.

In early theosophical literature the term "astral" may refer to the aether.

Astral Planes Overview

Later theosophical authors such as Annie Besant and C. Leadbeater make the astral finer than the etheric plane but "denser" than the mental plane. In order to create a unified view of seven bodies and remove earlier Sanskrit terms, an etheric plane was introduced and the term "astral body" was used to replace the former kamarupa - sometimes termed the body of emotion, illusion or desire.

According to Max Heindel 's Rosicrucian writings, desire-stuff may be described as a type of force-matter, in incessant motion, responsive to the slightest feeling. The desire world is also said to be the abode of the dead for some time subsequent to death. I have read several of these personally claimed "near death" or "revived from death" experiences. Elizabeth Maxim has made an effort to recall and represent her experiences to the best of her ability. The book should give the serious Bible person food for thought. God bless you, Richard W. Darnell, B.

Format: Paperback. This book is hyped too much. I agree with Cindy's review. I gave it one star, not because it is barely good, but the system would not allow my review, unless I gave it at least one star. Very disappointing. Need customer service? Click here. Here, we face challenges and situations that help us learn and grow so we can become more like Him. God knew that we would make mistakes, so He chose Jesus to come to earth and suffer for our sins.

As a result, we must have faith and learn to choose between right and wrong. Jesus suffered and died for our sins. When we die, our spirit and body separate. Our spirit goes to the spirit world. It is a place of rest and happiness for those who have made good choices and a state of hell for those who have made bad ones. The spirit world is not a final destination or judgment. In fact, because God is so loving and fair, those people in hell who never knew about Jesus are taught His gospel and given the opportunity to accept Him. Jesus overcame death so we can all live again.

This is called the resurrection. When we are resurrected, our spirits and bodies reunite. Our bodies will be perfect and will never die again. Jesus will judge us according to our actions and the desires of our hearts. He will be as merciful as He can. Because our actions and desires vary, heaven includes different kingdoms or degrees of glory. Our Heavenly Father and Jesus reside in the celestial kingdom.

People who refuse to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ but who live otherwise honorable lives will receive a place in the terrestrial kingdom. Those who continue in their sins and do not repent will receive a place in the telestial kingdom.

Q&A + beginner friendly guides

Even though our body dies, our spirit—which is the essence of who we are—lives on. Our spirit goes to the spirit world, which is divided into spirit paradise and spirit prison. For those spirits who lived good lives, paradise is a place of rest from earthly cares and sorrow. Spirit prison is not a final judgement or eternal punishment. The spirit world is a waiting period until we receive the gift of resurrection, when our spirits will reunite with our bodies.

The Afterlife Concept! (Heaven, Hell & The Astral Planes)

Our future resurrected body cannot die and will be perfect—free from pain, sickness, and imperfections. It is because of the infinite love of Jesus Christ that everyone will be resurrected. It is at the time of resurrection that each of us will be judged individually by Jesus, our Savior. This final judgment will be based on our desires, actions, and choices. And now, O man, remember, and perish not. Only God and Jesus know our hearts and our life circumstances perfectly, so only they can judge us perfectly.

This judgment will be one of mercy, healing, and love see Revelation Because our works and desires vary, heaven has different kingdoms or degrees of glory. The highest kingdom, where God lives, is called the celestial kingdom, followed by the terrestrial and telestial kingdoms.

The Astral World (1)

The Bible compares our eternal reward in one of these three kingdoms to the glory of the sun, moon, and stars. But each surpasses any form of happiness that we could possibly experience here on earth. Yet, it is our choices here and now that will shape where we spend eternity. We must believe in Jesus Christ, repent of our sins, be baptized in His name, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. We also need to keep the commandments throughout the rest of our lives—and repent when we fall short. Our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ reside in the celestial kingdom.
